In the afternoon she will open the 'Rabin Centre for Culture and Education' in the CIDI - building, Jagerstraat 4. The ceremony starts at 16.30. Women (and men) in Black assemble at 16.00PM

In the evening a service to commemorate Rabin will take place in the Gotic Room of the 'Raad van State', Kneuterdijk 20.The service starts at 20.15 PM. Women (and men) in Black assemble at 19.45 PM

We will stand silently behind the banners:

ISRAËL: STOP DE BEZETTING VAN GAZA EN DE WEST OEVER.
= Israel, stop occupation of Gaza and West Bank

ONTRUIM DE NEDERZETTINGEN.
= clear/withdraw from the settlements

NEDERLAND: LOBBY VOOR HET STUREN VAN VN WAARNEMERS NAAR DE BEZETTE GEBIEDEN
= Netherland's government: lobby for the deployment of UN obervers in the occupied territories

The international network of Women in Black started when Israeli women joined by the Palestinian women's peace organisation demonstrated together in 1988, one month after the first Intifada, standing in silence in the centre of Jeruzalem. The first vigil was created.
The Women in Black activities have spread to many cities and countries. On 8 June 2001 about 3000 Women (joined by Men) in Black held silent vigils in Jeruzalem and in about 150 other cities in the world (including Amsterdam) peaceful demonstrations took place.
Note: The Israëli and the Servian Women in Black groups have been nominated for the Nobel Price for Peace.

Please join us, dressed in black clothes, on Thursday 8 November, to protest peacefully against the violence in the Middle East.
